GC Solutions, LLC has teamed up with Swinerton on the Hillside North Student Housing project at California State University–Long Beach, currently under construction. The development will expand on-campus housing capacity while supporting the university’s long-term growth plan, requiring tight coordination and efficient sequencing across multiple trades.
The project features a custom precast RediStair® system engineered to serve as the building’s permanent stair solution while also providing safe, code-compliant temporary access during construction. Installed early in the structural phase, RediStair® allows crews to move efficiently between levels without relying on traditional temporary stair towers. This dual-purpose strategy reduces site congestion, improves vertical circulation planning, and supports a safer, more streamlined jobsite environment. It also minimizes access conflicts among trades working simultaneously on a dense, active campus site overall.
To further enhance durability, each stair component is outfitted with plant-installed Skudo Stair Guards prior to shipment. This integrated protection shields treads and risers from impact, debris, and heavy foot traffic throughout the build. By combining prefabrication with built-in protection, the RediStair® system helps limit rework, reduce punch-list items, and deliver a higher-quality finished product—providing measurable schedule and cost benefits through project completion and turnover.
